NYX

Hello everyone,

I know it has been quite a few days since my last post. However I am getting some things organized to do a few different reviews in the coming weeks. I am waiting for orders of items I have yet to receive. While we are waiting I figured I would do a small review of some items I picked up by NYX from a store I very much enjoy called "Phoenix Beauty Lounge." They are located in Markham, Ontario at Pacific Mall and its a great catch all kind of shop for cosmetics and especially nail products.

Any way I ended up getting two newer shades of lipstick and then a small 6 color palette and 6 different items on clearance. So lets take a look.

Lets start with the palette. This is the NYX NATURAL palette at first I was thinking this would be a nice basic palette to use daily and I still probably will. I have realized right from the get go that this is not very good in terms of pigmentation to the point I am not even posting a swatch photo. I tried doing them across my arm and you can barley see it. Maybe it might be better wet but seeing as I just got this yesterday I haven't had much chance to play around with it. However I am convinced that this is not one of their better palettes. I hope the shadow palettes I ordered are a lot better or I am going to have a disappointing review in the coming weeks.

Very nice colors just wish the color pay off was better.

One long double ended sponge applicator included

This palette has no amounts indicated on it, it is made in China. Also if your familiar with NYX they do claim to be cruelty free. I paid $10
My overall feelings have yet to be determined because I have not actually worn it yet to be able to say how it wears. Updates will come in time.

Since we are talking eyes I also purchased a NYX #3 eyeshadow brush just to see how they are. Again I have not tried it with my shadows as of yet. I did however brush it across my eye to feel it and it seems like its a bit harsh if you were packing on color with it but a gentle sweep across the eye is ok. The feeling of the brush in hand feels decent, but certainly not the best. I paid $6. Will see the end result once I have used it for a few applications.

I guess the next thing will look at is two shades of the creamy round lipstick that I think are great spring/summer colors, they are Gala and Marrakesh Pink
Gala is a warmer pink with a hint of shimmer/satin however I do find the two colors very close at first glance especially in the tube.
I really like NYX lipstick I have read mixed reviews about their products, but so far they have been working for me.

Marrakesh Pink is a very light more opaque shade. I just applied it and it is almost a little to nudey/pink on the lip. It actually reminds me of some of the pinks that were popular back in the 80's something you might have seen in an L.A. Gear ad.
I would not say what you see in the tube is actually accurate to what appears once on the lip.

Oddly enough I just applied both shades one to my top lip the other to the bottom and the only difference is the Marrakesh Pink is just one shade lighter, wow that was a waste for pretty much the same color. I paid $5.39 each they are both standard size at 4g/0.14oz.

I happened to notice a basket filled with items on clearance when I inquired as to how much the items were I was told they were 1 dollar each ?????WHAT! a buck wow ok hook me up. Let me say though there was not a ton of items to choose so I picked what I felt were worth my while.
I got 1 lipstick, 2 lip liners, 1 jumbo lip pencil and 2 lip glosses.

The lipstick is called Aries and is a bronze latte brown shimmer I am not sure how I feel about it. when its on my lip it almost looks a little to muddy which ten years ago I might have been a fan. I don't know about now but for one dollar I am sure I will find a way to make it work.

Next is the jumbo lip pencil in the color Hazelnut and it is just that it looks like you have been eating Nutella. So needless to say I don't think this color is for me, maybe I will try blending it with another color. As of right now not liking it at all.

Then I also grabbed two lip liners in the colors Latte and Nectar both of which I may end up using as an eye liner because again they are colors I don't really think I like on my lip.

Latte would be great to line the lip with then use the above noted products hazelnut jumbo pencil or the lipstick Aries

The funny thing with the pencils is that they swatch nicely but in real life they are not so hot
Nectar is a more burnished orange and I think it will be a fun color for the eyes, but that's as far as its going to go with me. I just think these colors are not good for someone with my complexion.

The last two items are the lip glosses the first one is called Golden Prune another bronze orange toned color that again is just a bit to dark for my liking. The gloss it self applies nicely and feels very smooth on the lip, but sadly it will stand in the group of outcast colors on the island of the makeup misfits.

It looks so much prettier in the picture, but you win some, you lose some.

Lastly this lip gloss is called Frosted Red a very sparkly orange/red and it seems a little bit to bright in the tube. However if your not super heavy handed with it this is the only color out of all the lip products here that I can actually work with. Its a nice color for summer and you can keep it toned down by not applying it like a maniac. That being said if you want it a little more dramatic for evening it is a buildable gloss.

I have to admit in the tube this color looks intimidating and looks over done with sparkle but when its on that is not the case. So its worth a try.

You know its funny how over time we go through phases of loving certain blocks of color and then literally doing a 360 and loathing them. I have loved many colors over the years, some become tried and true and others really are just fads. I do find things change as you get older though. I use to love deep rich dark colors and had a very Gothic look for many years. Now that I am getting more white hair and I see the changes in my aging face I have learned to embrace some lighter colours to flatter who I am now. That's what people have to remember with time it can't always be about the current trend just love what you love because its what works best for your ever changing face. I always tell people "When you look good you feel good and when you feel good you look good." I strongly live by that motto and hope you will too.

Even though this review was disappointing for me in terms of these products that were complete misses this time around I am glad to have shared my thoughts about them with you.
