FIRST IMPRESSION KORRES RICE AND OLIVE OIL COMPACT POWDER

KORRES COMPACT POWDER

Even though I bought this before Christmas I sadly have had little time to really test it out to its full potential. These are just my initial thoughts .
I happened upon this item at Winners and felt it was worth grabbing because it was only $7. If your familiar with Korres products then you know they tend to fall under the high end spectrum of the cosmetic and skincare world.
I really think the compact was a big selling point for me its well made and very clean and modern looking. Also it just happened with the few that were there this was the perfect colour for me.

As you can see it comes with a square sponge applicator that has a white leatherette look and feel on the one side. Apparently this product is intended for normal/dry skin so we will see how this plays out on my oily skin (oops missed that memo)

This powder is velvety smooth, finely milled and is coated in a rich botanical blend that is suppose to be emollient to the skin.
Korres compact powder is dermatologist tested and free from mineral oil, propylene glycol and ethanolamine which I can't even pronounce, so should we really be putting those things on our skin any way???? probably not!
I do smell the essence of olive oil in this product, but its very mild, I just have a very sensitive nose. Also there is rice starch in it which I imagine helps to absorb some of the excess oil.

I think this product will be great as a finishing powder to complete and set your makeup. I will try to update later once I have actually used it for a while to see how it stacks up to less expensive compact powders and if Korres is worth the hype and price.

LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS IF YOU OWN ANYTHING FROM KORRES???

THANKS FOR READING EVERYONE, HAVE A GREAT DAY:)

XOXO

ANNA SUI PRIZE PACK I WON

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to post some pics of the Anna Sui items I won from Dave Lackie on Twitter. I have had no real time to use any of this stuff as of yet with the exception of the lipstick, so this is more a look and first impression, not an in depth review.
The items I won are Liquid Eyeliner 001 in black, a lipstick 400 in a gorgeous true red , and 400 Rose Cheek Color, as well a La Vie De Boheme shower gel.

The shower gel starts with a Turkish Rose scent which I normally am not a huge fan of, but this melding with berries, peony and other florals, and warm vanilla and woods make this a very interesting scent that is more mature and sultry.  (Tube in the picture above) Approx. $40

The eyeliner at first I was having a total epic fail trying to get this working and felt like a total ass that I was not even clicking the right part of the tube DUH! Once I actually realized how to use it this is a very nice fluid liner that will be perfect for winging it;)

With time and practice I can see this becoming a favourite for how fine of a line you can make and for exceptional tight lining.
Approx. $40

The Rose Cheek Color is very pretty colours and esthetically pleasing to look at with its embossed rose pattern

Again I can't say how it wears or how long it wears because I have not used it yet, just been glancing at it in passing *sigh*

This blush runs Approx. $55

Lastly the one item I have used a couple of times and adore it which is 400 lipstick in this stunning, sexy red made to be paired with that perfect LBD.
So creamy, heavily pigmented and absolutely jaw dropping gorgeous, sure to turn some heads

I love this lipstick, but if your not in the market to spend $30-35 on a lipstick as I certainly am not, then a very close dupe for this red that is an affordable alternative at $10 would be Sonia Kashuk's satin luxe lip colour 93 Classic Red. I have compared the two and they are really close in colour.

I hope this gave you some in sight into the price points and products available from Anna Sui

Thanks for reading and lots more coming to Makeup'Asylum

XOXO:)

HAVE YOU SEEN THE BEAUTIFUL NUDES FROM STUDIO MAKEUP????

Hi everyone,

Today I wanted to share with you a brand that is new to me, but I know it's been around for a while now, I just have not bought anything from the line till now. The item I am sharing with you today is called the NUDES palette which has a lot of strikingly similar colours to that of the Urban Decay Naked palette.
Lets take a look

L2R: Buff, Biscotti, Ginger, Café, Honey, Chestnut, Truffle, Graphite

As you can see unlike the UD NAKED palettes this palette only houses 8 colours as apposed to 12. So I will just give you my impression of what colours I feel this palette are most similar to from the Naked palette and you can be your own judge if you already own the Naked palette.

From L2R: Buff, Biscotti, Ginger, Café, Honey, Chestnut, Truffle, Graphite
UD NAKED Palette colours that match: Virgin, Sin, Naked, Buck, Half Baked, Smog, Hustle and Gunmetal

I feel these colours most closely represent the colours offered in the UD Naked palette however they are less shimmery which could be a bonus for those that don't want to much of that especially for those in their later years who are looking for a more gentle neutral palette.

I have used the Studio-Makeup palette once since I purchased it over a week ago and I feel the colour payoff is very good, slightly dusty, yet still applies buttery. I did use the eye/lip primer that came with the palette and had no issues with the product rubbing off or moving around on the eye and my shadow stayed in place for several hours. It also has a complimentary double-ended Pro Shadow Brush, which is nothing special and I would only use it if I had no other brushes on hand.
The palette offers up matte, shimmers and glitters that can easily take your look from day to night.

All in all I am very pleased with this palette, because its always fun to find a close dupe to a higher end brand and know that your still getting quality at a fraction of the cost.
This palette is a total of 9.6g of eye shadow and the primer is 1.6ml for $25

The palette says made in the U.S., but Studio-Makeup must be formulating the brand in Bologna, Italy, as that is also on the box, which you can expect the quality to be of very high standard.

SO ALWAYS MAKE SURE TO CHECK LOCAL DRUG STORES FOR INTERESTING NICHE BRANDS BECAUSE YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED BY HOW COMPARABLE SOME OF THE BRANDS ARE TO HIGH END FAVOURITES.

LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS IF YOU THINK THIS PALETTE LOOKS EXCITING AND WORTH PURCHASING FOR THOSE WHO DON'T ALREADY HAVE A NUDE PALETTE.

THANKS AS ALWAYS FOR READING

ELIZABETH ARDEN CREAM MAKEUP, RADIANT BRONZING POWDER AND LIPSTICK

Every time I hear the words "Elizabeth Arden" I think of Red Door perfume. I actually am not a fan of this fragrance, but have become familiar with it's presence over the years.

When it comes to cosmetics I have never tried anything from Elizabeth Arden till now. Two items were gifted to me and a lipstick I recently purchased on a very deep discount.

FLAWLESS FINISH SPONGE ON CREAM MAKEUP
02 GENTLE BEIGE
Upon first impression I don't think this is a foundation suitable for oily skin types. It is very thick and has an oily slip to it. I have applied this once and worn it for a couple of hours and did not like the heavier feel of it on my face. In this day and age of lightweight fluid foundations, bb and cc creams it's hard to enjoy such products as this, unless you need to heavily conceal your skin do to imperfections, dark spots or scaring. This would probably be ideal for photos or filming. However if your a person who has pimples I would not recommend this as it tends to settle around the raised surface and leave a cakey affect even if you buff it out.

This shade is currently a touch dark for me, but due to a lot of sun exposure it may very well work closer to my skin tone nearing the end of summer. I will continue to work with this cream foundation and see if anything will sway my current feelings about it. I feel that this type of foundation works best for people with very normal skin that is not to oily, but not super dry either.

Apparently this cream foundation has  micronized diamond powder in it, which helps reflect the light in order to give skin that flawless finish drawing attention away from imperfections and fine lines.

There is a mild scent to this foundation you get 23g for about $45

PURE FINISH RADIANT BRONZING POWDER (NEW YORK IN BLOOM COLLECTION)
I was extremely excited to give this a go when I received it because as some of you may know from reading, I am a huge bronzer fan. I wear it almost daily, even if I wear nothing else on my skin.
I love the embossed daisy pattern on this bronzer, so feminine and fresh looking. I really enjoy that more companies are bring back an era of makeup design that was once a staple with all makeup, which are these patterns and designs in pressed powders, bronzers and even lipsticks.
There is a great deal of sparkle overspray on this bronzer, but it will wear off after several uses, just be aware.

Once the initial sparkle is gone the bronzer it self is quite nice and is very finely milled. When running your brush over it there is some kick back. I find on my already tanned skin this is a nice compliment to it, but if you are fair skin be sure to choose your shade wisely. I don't smell any fragrance which is nice, to many products are overly fragrant which can be very irritating to the nose and eyes for people sensitive to scent. It can also agitate certain skin types.

You get .35oz/10g for $40

Last item today

I thought I would share this all though I think a handful of these lipsticks have been discontinued, but I can also recommend a possible stand in if you can't get a hold of the colour I am about to show you

EXCEPTIONAL LIPSTICK 06 CORALINE
I got this at the deep discounted price of $6 when these lipsticks normally run at $25. There was no tester available any longer for this colour and I just grabbed it on a whim. I am glad I did so. It turned out to be a really pretty coral peach toned lipstick with a beautiful gold highlight. Think rose gold, but peachier. I love this colour and am glad I went in buying it blindly. I will be reaching for this often over the coming days.

I decided to photograph it outside to show the true beauty of it's very dimensional colour.

Hope you enjoyed today's Elizabeth Arden review and come back soon

ANNA SUI ROCK ME AND SECRET WISH FRAGRANCE REVIEW

Today is the last review I will be doing for a long while on Anna Sui products. So on a sweeter note I thought the last review should be two of her fragrances.

First up is SECRET WISH- This is a fresh fragrance with depth that screams summer time, at least to me any way. It smells of fresh floral's enveloped with sweet juicy essence of melon and lime and lemon tones linger nicely in the foreground of this scent. It has a mysterious tone to it that is a little hard to pinpoint, but is certainly unique.

Since I received this eau de toilette I have reached for it most days. I love scents that are not so common. Now a days you can literally pass a dozen people who pretty much smell the same because so many people buy very common fragrance or what ever is popular at the moment.
The bottle is fairly basic, but still looks pleasing with small detailing, geometric shape that can either be stood or laid on it's side and the aqua coloured liquid is a sure hit with me.
If your a fan of a fragrance such a Dolce & Gabbana light blue then this fragrance should be on your list of ones to try.

SECRET WISH comes in various sizes and price range from $18-75
This particular 75ml bottle would run you around $70

SECRET WISH was released in 2005

Moving a long the other scent I received is Anna Sui's ROCK ME- This bottle is a real show stopper with it's girly curved guitar bottle draped with a butterfly, hearts, stars and peace sign motif. So why not channel your inner rock star and give this scent a try.

I find this to be a very sweet scent with a strong hold on peach at the start and fusing into the honeysuckle, jasmine and waterlily. The dry down then takes on a warmer feeling with the amber and cedarwood marrying with all the other scents for quite the grand finale.
I find that I prefer the "Secret Wish" over this scent and this is not normally a fragrance I would jump to purchase. However this was gifted to me and I appreciate it no less. Even if the fragrance is not one I will use a lot, I will enjoy the aesthetic of the bottle sitting on my vanity.

Again there are various sizes for this fragrance and the price range is about the same as Secret Wish

This is a 75ml bottle for around $60

You can find Anna Sui fragrances at select SHOPPERS DRUG MART locations, as well as Secret Wish is carried at Sephora and you can also see these products on Anna Sui's direct website.

or
 and

When it comes to fragrance always make sure to go to the store and use the tester. Make sure to spray near pulse points and actually walk around the store for a while or go finish up your shopping to see how it melds with your own unique body chemistry. Just remember what may not work for one person, may just be the best thing you ever discovery.

BOTH FRAGRANCES WERE GIFTED TO ME FOR THE PURPOSE OF REVIEW. ALL MY OPINIONS ARE STILL MY OWN AND BASED ON MY OWN EXPERIENCE WITH THE PRODUCTS.

Be sure to come back often, Till then...

ANNA SUI MOISTURE RICH FLUID FOUNDATION AND LOOSE POWDER

HI EVERYONE,

Now that I am drawing near a close of reviewing Anna Sui products I thought I would save the items I like most for the end.

So today lets take a look at the MOISTURE RICH FLUID FOUNDATION P05- This foundation glides on effortlessly and blends out to a beautiful dewy satin finish. Surprisingly this foundation works well for me, which normally moisturizing ones react poorly with my oily skin.
If I set it with a brush of loose powder it stays looking quite nice most of the day with little to no noticeable difference.  The feature I like most about this foundation is that on my skin it does not change colour from oxidization, which to me is a HUGE plus.

As you can see this foundation blends out flawlessly on the skin. This colour is my perfect match.
So if your looking for a luxe foundation that stays put, stays true to its colour and blends in like nobodys business, then give Anna Sui's moisture rich foundation a try today. Also you need very little to cover the entire face, so a bottle will last quite a while. I also like that this foundation tones down the redness in my skin and evens out my complexion. Keep in mind that is does have the signature rose scent, but that dissipates shortly after applying.

You get 30ml in a beautiful frosted glass rose shaped bottle with pump for $42

Then we have the LOOSE POWDER #700 LIGHT BEIGE- Let me start by saying that the container alone is  nothing short of amazing and will look lovely on your vanity for years to come. The interesting feature to this powder is the powder itself is contained to a paper holder that you peel open. You then place the sifting screen on top and use it with your favorite powder brush or the beautiful thick purple powder puff that comes with it.

This powder has been around for 15 years and has gained quite the cult following in the cosmetic world. The innovative thing about it is that you can just buy a refill which saves on extra unnecessary packaging and cuts down on cost. I plan to use mine for any other powders I may use down the road.
The powder itself gives a nice finish to soften the appearance of your skin and is equipped with SPF16. Pair this with the foundation and you have a match made in heaven.

So if your in the market to treat your self to this velvety fine milled loose powder you will get
16g and it will run you about $50.

Overall I am very satisfied with the results of both the foundation and the powder which I have been testing now for almost three weeks. At this point in time I see no down side, other then the cost involved. However these would make nice gifts for a loved one who adores makeup.

You can find Anna Sui products at select SHOPPERS DRUG MART locations and online.
