PACIFICA PERFUME

I am a creature of habit in some ways, not all. I like towels folded a certain way, labels to be facing out in the cupboards, objects to be in pairs, and routines to be consistent. This also applies to perfume once I find something I love, and works well with my body chemistry I usually stick with a product long term. This happens to be the case with Pacifica perfume.

A little over three years ago I noticed the Pacifica line being carried through my favourite online retailer Well.ca (link in the sidebar) and opted to give it a try. Having been disappointed with fragrance in the past, I decided to start small instead of buying a full-size product. I ordered the Island Vanilla solid perfume, let's just say it was love at first whiff. This is a sweet yet rich Tahitian vanilla scent with honey dappled jasmine notes and a robust tea base all the things I love. I would say bar none this has become my signature scent which has taken me years to find. I also like the Indian coconut nectar as well, but still Island Vanilla remains #1. I often layer the two perfumes together. When you first spray Island Vanilla it hits you with that sweetness but as it dries down it turns into something warm, creamy, and not overwhelming.

WHAT'S IN IT? (INFO TAKEN FROM PACIFICA WEB SITE)
Pacifica’s Island Vanilla Spray Perfumes contain natural denatured alcohol and Pacifica’s own fragrance blend with natural and essential oils including juniper, grapefruit, and heliotrope.  No parabens, animal testing, animal ingredients or artificial colors.  100% VEGAN and Gluten-free.

Pacifica is carried online and you can also check who is a stockist in your area

I would highly recommend this line of perfumes especially if you have allergies or irritations to synthetic fragrance. Since using this product I don't have any congestion in my nose or eye twitching like I have with other perfume. I really hope that Pacifica never changes the formulation of this scent because it's perfect just the way it is.

In time I would like to try some other perfumes in the collection which has a range of 18 different scents. The average price here in Canada is between $25-30 for a 30ml bottle and about $10 for the solid perfume which is 10g. The current bottle I have I use every day and has lasted me 2 months, and I am only now starting to run out.

For every Island Vanilla sold a portion of sales proceeds go to the Ocean Future Society which is a non-profit marine conservation group.

CanadianEcoMom Final thought- I find perfume purchasing a highly personal thing so unless you know a friend or family member likes a certain scent for sure, or they have made mention of one in conversation please refrain from buying it for others. I find people often buy something because they see a gift set on sale or even regift it, and why is that? because the person would not have chosen that scent in the first place.

I hope you found this post helpful and will be on the look out for Pacifica near you

EO/EVERYONE SOAP FOR EVERY KID

I am transitioning many of our household products to more eco-friendly options that are also safe for my family. However anything considered "GREEN" ends up costing you more of your hard earned green. So I try to find products that are not only better, but also offer a good quantity for the price.

I have been going to my nearest health food grocery store and they carry absolutely everything. However not everything is what I would consider budget friendly, so I try to be selective when choosing new items to try.

For the past two months we have been using EO (EVERYONE) shower gel that is from the children's range of products, but we all like the smell, so hey! why not. It has a delicious blend of orange, coconut and pineapple. A perfect fit for those who love all things tropical hence the name "Tropical Coconut Twist." Also it cleans well both hair and body, rinses off easily and the lather and bubbles are fantastic. Also does not irritate our skin which has been a huge problem for us with more main stream products.

I have seen EO products many times and I think the big selling point for me is the size of the bottle. You get a whopping 960ml/32 fl oz for $11.99 CAD, which works out to be around .80 per ml.
The other benefit with this product is that you can wash your hair and body with it as well as making a fun bubble bath for your child/children. A truly multi-purpose product for the whole family and the quantity to match.

For those of you looking to make the change to safer products for you and your family give the EO Tropical Coconut Twist a try. Here are the top reasons why

Makeup'Asylum is transitioning to CanadianEcoMom

After taking much time this summer and several other small breaks in the past three and a half years has given me a lot to think about. That being said I realize that it's not the blogging I dislike it's always been about my content. I want to come on to my blog and focus on lots of different things that interest me and will help reach many different audiences. Talking about the 90th shade of nude lipstick has literally lost its "Lustre" for me. I just want to talk about what makes me happy. Products I love, hate and NOT limited to makeup only. So Makeup'Asylum has now been laid to rest and I am happy to announce my new space here on blogger CanadianEcoMom. I will have a range of topics covered here on my blog and offering up info on products that are not only safe for you, but your family and the environment too. It's going to be a slow process as I am just beginning to transition my home into a more eco-minded space. Some things I have been doing for years and don't find them at all to be NEW solutions to helping the environment and being deemed safe. To me it's just common sense really. There are times not everyone will agree with my points of view and that is fine, but lets realize "We can agree to disagree" and end it at that. I hope you will all enjoy what is yet to come from this new journey and stick around for relateable content that EVERYONE can enjoy.
Here is my new logo for CanadianEcoMom which you can also find me on Instagram to.

PROVINCE APOTHECARY ORGANIC & WILDCRAFTED SKINCARE

Hi Everyone,

Its been a bit since my last post and today I bring you a newly discovered line that I am excited to talk about. This line is called Province Apothecary and the company is located here in the heart of Toronto. The owner Julie has a range of about 20 products that are handcrafted in small batches to ensure potency and freshness. The ingredients for this line are locally sourced and are considered aromatherapy, organic and 100% natural, Vegan, NO GMO and cruelty free:)

Here is some further info about what you can expect from PROVINCE APOTHECARY

"We believe that a unique blends of plant-based, food-grade, synthetic-free ingredients will balance your skin, reduce fine lines and give you a radiant + vibrant complexion. The skin is the largest organ of the body which absorbs nutrients and eliminates waste material. It is important to be aware of the substances we out on our skin. Never apply anything on to your skin that you would NOT eat.
Synthetic ingredients can be carcinogenic and can cause premature aging by breaking down collagen, dehydrating the skin, clogging pores and changing the PH of the skin. All of our products are free of Petroleum, Synthetic fragrances, preservatives, chemicals (ex, sls), dyes, persticides and GMO's."

So how did Province Apothecary come to be?  Here is a back story on that. Province Apothecary was founded in 2012 by Julie Clark. Julie is a holistic health practitioner and aromatherapist based in Toronto. Since her childhood Julie suffered from serve allergies and eczema and so she began the journey of making her own skincare products because sadly in such a huge world as cosmetics and skincare Julie found nothing that could help heal her sensitive skin and so through a labour of love and for her own peace of mind Province Apothecary was born.

So after communications with Julie she was kind enough to send me not one, but two items from her lovely collection and that's what we are going to look at today.

The first item I  knew I had to test out was the CLEAR SKIN WITH LAVENDER & IMMORTELLE. So for those that don't know Immortelle or also known as everlasting or strawflower is a botanical which its scientific name is Helichrysum angustifolium.
However what does it do you ask???

Immortelle is very commonly known and grown throughout countries in the Mediterranean, the distilled oil from this flower is very potent and has a very deep rich, earthy tone. The oil from Immortelle is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, as well as helping mature skin to regenerate and can also help with pain. Till now I was not familiar with this oil or flower for that matter. What an exciting new discovery.

Here is a pic of the actual flower

Google Image

Now on to the product it self

There is an ever so slight blueish sheen to this oil I am assuming from the Lavender

So this CLEAR SKIN oil is suppose to do just that, heal blemishes and reduce an existing scarring. The statement holds true that you literally only need one drop. I made the error the first night I tried it of pouring way to much in my hand. It is a very heady scent that takes some getting use to. However what I can tell you is this really does work. I actually had quite the pimple on my chin and I applied a dab of this before going to bed, it absorbed fairly quick into the skin and for me personally it worked. I woke up the next morning and the pimple had dried up quite a bit and shrunk significantly and upon doing about two more nights of this it was pretty much gone. So even though this is potent to smell the results wouldn't stop me from using it. One thing I would like to see in the future is maybe a dropper style bottle for this product because this type of bottle could result in to much product flowing out.
I love that all the products are beautifully stored in gorgeous cobalt blue bottles, not only is it aesthetically pleasing, but it helps to preserve the quality of the oil inside, so it's not being damaged by the light.

 This product is 3ml/$30

Moving on the other item I received was the MOISTURIZING CLEANSER + MAKE-UP REMOVER. This product is made with Avocado & Raspberry and helps clear congestion from the skin and pores as well as rejuvenate the skin overall.

Here are some further details about this facial oil/cleanser from Province Apothecary's website

"These hydrating oils remove make up & excess oil; restoring your skin’s natural radiance. Gently cleanses without drying out your skin or destroying it’s natural pH.
Raspberry oil stimulates cell turn over; rejuvenating skin. Bergamot clears congestion while frankincense tones the skin. Lavender heals blemishes and restores the skin.
This cleanser helps skin stay nourished, balanced. and healthy."

Directions: Use nightly to remove make-up and dirt. Warm oil in your palm. Massage into face and neck in a circular motion. Rinse thoroughly with a damp face cloth. For best results, follow with Province Apothecary Toner.

So I have found that I can use this, but I have to alternate nights as it is very emollient and made up of about a dozen different oils that may be a bit to rich for my already very oily skin. I do understand the concept of fighting oil with oil, but that does not work for every single individual who has oily/acne prone skin. Don't get me wrong I really like this product and think it does do a great job getting my makeup off. It is essential to follow the instruction for best results. I love that the bottle has a pump dispenser for ease of use, also the scent is clean, and has that herbal natural smell to it, which for me I love because I know what I am putting on my skin.

There are two sizes 30ml/$16 (this is the size I received)
or
120ml/$42 (which is definitely the more cost effective option)

I recommend buying the 30ml first to ensure this product is right for you and then purchase the larger size and you'll be set for quite a while. I find I only need a pump and a half to clean my whole face.

Here is also the pamphlet I was sent of the other items available from Province Apothecary

100% PURE COSMETICS

                                                                                                                           All items sent from PR

Hi everyone today I want to share with you another brand that I have recently discovered. I find I have been searching for brands that are less mainstream and offer more natural options. Everything I am showing you today was generously supplied by 100% Pure cosmetics. I hope you enjoy this over view.

PURITY COLLECTION FACIAL CLEANSER + MASK ACNE DETOX
$28 CAD-147ML

This product is 100% natural and 100% Vegan. This mask is formulated to give you a clearer complexion and protect against future breakouts. Essential oils present in the product help eliminate bacteria that causes acne, also purifying herbs and nourishing seaweeds help protect the skin from future problems.

When you apply this mask it has a super intense peppermint scent that is quite strong and made my eyes water. The mask itself I find is best applied with a large foundation brush. I leave it on for about 12 minutes. Once I rinse I find my skin feels very clean, but still soft. I also find that it helped to start drying up any spots I did have at that time. As of late I have been having several small breakouts around my chin and nose area. I don't feel any one mask is going to completely solve your skin problems, but I do feel they can help relieve them and get your skin on the way to healing. I find because it is quite strong I only use it once, max twice a week and I have only been applying it to problem areas instead of my entire face. Also this mask gets super stiff and hard as it dries I can barely move my mouth once it sets.

BLACK TEA PIGMENTED ULTRA LENGTH MASCARA
$26 CAD-7g

The colour of this mascara is called "Black Tea" however there are three other offerings which are plum, blue and brown. I find this mascara smells really nice because its 100% natural and infused with tea, chocolate and berry pigments which I can really smell.

I like the way this mascara is packaged in the cardboard cylinder, and the mascara tube
it self is very nice and feels like a quality package in your hand.
This mascara applies nicely with decent volume and good separation. However it is not water proof, which I would prefer that it is, as it does run easily. The claim of it being water and smudge resistant fell short for me. It also offers ProVitamin B5, Vitamin E, and wheat protein to help strengthen the individual lashes. This is how my lashes look after two coats.

FIRST LOVE- CREAMY NAIL POLISH
$16-14.7ml

The benefits to these polishes are that they are free of the common carcinogens found in most nail polish such as- formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, camphor, and formaldehyde resin.

I find this polish beautiful, creamy and has excellent full opacity in as little as two coats. The formula is very good, it applies easily with no streaking and self levels quickly.
This colour reminds of liquid bubble gum.

I (HEART) YOU

This nail polish  is still in the pink family, but has a different tone that runs a little peachy pink. It also has super fine pinky silver glitter. I absolutely love this polish and think its a fabulous unique colour. I love the shimmer that it reflects when hit with the light, Its a very dreamy nail polish.

100% Pure offers Pinks, Reds & Nudes in their nail polish collection and I do hope eventually to see some brighter bolder offerings from them down the road. I highly recommend these polishes. The colours I received do wear a decent amount of time, especially with a top coat before needing a touch up. It really all depends on what your hands are doing when your wearing ANY type of polish, I don't care who makes it.

and very last up I was also sent the short handle eye shadow brush (travel size)
$13

All of 100% pure brushes are vegan, cruelty free and made with antibacterial synthetic fibers. All brushes have wood handles that have a opalescent white finish and high shine tapered silver ferrules. The company name and vegan/cruelty free are printed on them. This particular brush does not have the purpose on it, so I am not sure if the others do or not.

I find the brush soft, but stiff and best used for packing on colour to the eyelid. It does not shed and the synthetic fibers keep their shape and are not showing any signs of splaying. This brush washes up very easily.

Over all I am pleased with these products from 100% Pure and I recommend you check them out at the link here as they have many more wonderful products to discover.

Also on their website you can submit your email address to stay up to date on latest news and special promo's.

HAVE YOU EVER TRIED 100% PURE????

THANKS FOR READING AND HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY
XOXO:)

LIVE CLEAN EXOTIC NECTAR COLLECTION

HI ALL,

So I am slowly trying to revamp my collection of body products and household items to more eco- friendly choices, as well as products that are less harmful on my skin and everyone in my family.

My interest in the "Live Clean" line started several years ago when I noticed that my baby's skin was having a reaction to Johnson's baby products. So as I walked the baby care aisle I noticed Live Clean, which at that time was newer to the market. I bought the shampoo & wash, as well as the lotion. That night after I bathed my baby with the product and put on some lotion I noticed what a gentle awesome smell this product had. It truly is a baby scent. I also noticed over the course of the week my child's skin returned to normal with no signs of rash, I was hooked on this wonderful product and it cost no more then the chemical filled Johnson products so it's definitely worth the switch.

Moving forward to today I have rediscovered my passion for live clean products, but this time it is the "EXOTIC NECTAR" collection which has a range of 8 products. I purchased the body lotion and body wash.

The body lotion dispenses a little more fluid then other lotions, but as you start to rub it in and it takes on a creamier consistency. I noticed it creates a shield over the surface of the skin and if you rub your skin an hour or so later it almost acts as though you have reactivated the lotion again to continue to hydrate.

I love that this particular collection has a nice nutty smell to it. For those that don't know Argan is a fruit that has a thick bitter peel, within that is an unpleasant flavoured pulpy flesh that only smells sweet. Deep within the Argan fruit is a hard nut that may only have a mere 2-3 seeds in it which Argan oil is extracted from.
The whole family can enjoy this product because it just smells good in a very unisex way.

Why not indulge further and take this amazing scent to the shower as well with this delicious creamy body wash. A must try for all fans of Argan products.

The body wash has a mild caramel colour to it similar to that of the Argan seeds on the label.
This gives a great lather, and easy rinsing. I find paired with the lotion is gives ultimate moisture that does last all day. I find if I use the lotion randomly throughout the day my hands have been feeling exceptionally soft, with no trace of a greasy feeling at all.

Live Clean states on their packaging the following
"Plant Based, Certified Organic Botanicals, Petroleum  Free, Mineral Oil, Paraben and Phthalate Free, Pure Vegan, Never tested on animals, Package recyclable, Biodegradable Ingredients, Hypoallergenic, Dermatologist tested."

That is a lot to promise in a product.

My only one concern about Live Clean is that I noticed in the ingredients that there is "Fragrance" which can be any number of other additional ingredients not clearly stated on the label for the consumer. Some of those ingredients may not be as skin and eco friendly as we would like and can often be the culprit for allergic reaction even though it is 98% plant based. So always keep that in mind when buying products.

The price range for Live Clean products is about $6-13 depending on what your purchasing.
If you sign up at their website they will email you a coupon.

If you want to check out other areas of Live Clean products head to a store near you or online at

Hope this all gave you some insight and that you will try Live Clean products soon

WELL.CA ORDER #2 ALBA PRODUCTS AND PACIFICA SOLID PERFUME ISLAND VANILLA

I really am enjoying the service and selection available through Well.ca, so if you haven't checked it out yet I highly urge you to do so, you don't know what your missing.

Any way I only have a few items to share today and the first three are from the ALBA line.

NATURAL ACNE'DOTE DEEP PORE WASH
So my skin is no where near perfect, but providing I do the right things with it I do keep it looking decent. So Alba has brought a new range of items called Natural ACNEdote. It is formulated with willow bark which is where Salicylic Acid is naturally derived from. It gets in there and cleans out your pores and is suppose to keep fighting breakouts after you rinse, but that claim is not working for me. I find the liquid rather runny so be careful when squeezing some out. Once you get it lathering I find its creamy and foamy and rinses really well. Your skin feels nice and clean and cool from the peppermint oil in it. However be careful as this is one of those ingredients that can trigger irritation to the skin which can also be counter intuitive to the purpose of this product.

So if your looking for a more natural skin care option for your problem skin then Alba is worth a shot. It is oil free, certified organic, natural fragrance and cruelty free.
It comes in a 177ml bottle for $14.99

HAWAIIAN COCKTAIL BODY WASH (MAI TAI)
So last time I reviewed an Alba body wash that was creamy Pina Colada and it has become a household favourite. However we always want to try other things. The Mai Tai body wash is less opaque and creamy, but still gives a great lather and the smell is intoxicating. It is quite a lot like the drink. Which for those who don't know Mai Tai in Hawaiian means "GOOD" and this body wash is just that.
I smell the lime and it also has hints of a "Shirley Temple" drink like the grenadine syrup and maraschino cherries. Its so yummy it makes you want to run in the kitchen and shake up a drink.

This body wash is good for normal to dry skin and comes in a 355ml bottle for $8.79

NATURAL HAWAIIAN SHAMPOO GLOSS BOSS (HONEYDEW)
Right away when you start washing your hair with this you get that intense kick of honeydew smell. It helps revive and add shine to hair that has become dull and lifeless due to residue and often salts and sulfates that are in many other brands of shampoo. Other beneficial ingredients are Awapuhi (wild ginger) and Pineapple that help restore the shine your hair is lacking .

I like this shampoo because it gives a nice gentle clean without being over powering.
All Alba products are organic and cruelty free and come in a delicious range of tropical scents.
This shampoo is suitable for all hair types
 355ml for $9.99

Last thing today is an item by the brand PACIFICA. This is a solid perfume that can be rubbed on your pulse points and leave you smelling oh so yummy. There are about a 25 scents to choose from on Pacifica's website and 5 available through Well.ca , I opted for ISLAND VANILLA. This is a beautiful blend of fruity Tahitian vanilla melding with the warmth of bourbon vanilla for a true island experience. However I do find you have to reapply if you want the scent to last any length of time.

If your looking for a more natural, earth friendly fragrance make sure to check out the Pacifica line. The products offered are 100% vegan, no animal ingredients, cruelty-free, Free of parabens, phthalates, mineral or peanut oil.
In the future I will be giving the eau de toilette a try to see if the lasting power is any better.

This tin is .33oz/10g and is $8.99

I really hope you all have the chance to experience some of these products if not all of them.

 check out these websites

Thanks for reading
