SMOULDERING FOR MAYBELLINE FALL 2013 COLLECTION

Hi to all,

Thanks for returning to read some more from Makeup'Asylum. Hope you have all had a good week.

So a few weeks ago I purchased several items from the Maybelline Fall 2013 collection and that's what I am sharing with you all today.

First up lets take a look at the dream quads keeping in mind everything here is Limited Edition so you may or may not be able to still get these at a store near you.

The first quad is AUTUMN DREAM- Which offers stunning rich jewel toned colours such as a champagne beige, Amethyst purple, emerald green and an amazing dark glitter sapphire blue. These are very dramatic colours and will be a sure hit through fall and taking right through to many Christmas parties around the corner. I think this quad is absolutely gorgeous.

Next up is FALL TEMPTATION- Which is just the perfect neutral quad offering up some seriously delicious colours like gold, peachy gold, bronze and a sultry chocolate brown. Both these quads have exceeded my expectations. However I find most of the eyestudio line quite impressive.

I give these eyeshadows to very big thumbs up

Also in the same collection I picked up two of the colorsensational high shine lip glosses. There were three all together at the store near me. My two picks are

305 RASPBERRY ABLAZE Which is a nice berry toned gloss suitable for fall or anytime really.

the other colour leans more towards a cotton candy pink with a slight mauve undertone especially when you see it in person. This is 290 FLASH OF PINK

Both colours have great buildable colour with good opacity. The raspberry gloss is a bold lip, while the pink is more gentle.
I find these glosses don't have the greatest taste or smell, but its not to the point that you can't wear them as with some glosses I have. Also they are ever so slightly sticky.
Esthetically one of the finer points with these glosses is the packaging, which is very clean modern squared tubes that are solid and feel luxe in your hand, they look expensive.

All around these are overall a quality product and are nice to have if you have a love for glosses. If your not into gloss you can skip it.

I also picked up two of the lipsticks as well which are bar none two of my favourites to date. They wear well, fade out evenly, have amazing pigmentation and smell excellent. There is nothing I do not like about these lipsticks. I would say they certainly can hold their own next to some of the high end brands.

Colour 1000 LAVENDER VOLTAGE is truly a champion purple on all levels. If you follow me on Twitter I did post a pic of this on my lips. It really makes a statement as put by Maybelline themselves "BOOM"

1005 MIDNIGHT PLUM This is taking purple to the other end of the spectrum and almost turning it black, but this is super vampy and oh so sexy. For a while there I fell out of touch with the dark colours and even my hair was lighter, but somethings can't stay that way for long. I love bold dark goth looks and I always feel more like myself when I come back to this type of style and makeup.

and lastly one nail polish I grabbed, but I am not exactly crazy about the finish is the Vintage Leather in the colour VINTAGE VIOLET

It looked fine while its wet, but upon drying it takes on a matte finish that just looks messy to me. It has flakes of sparkle or something in it. I love the colour not the formula. Also it chips really bad and after very short wear time. Mind you I also did not apply a top coat:/ My bad. However it still would not have lasted on my nails because I am forever doing dishes and cleaning and I hate wearing rubber gloves.

I hope you all enjoyed getting up close and personal with the Maybelline Fall collection. I have seen some pieces still floating around at stores near me, but I am sure stuff like that tends to sell faster in the states. I noticed here in Canada or at least in my area people aren't as apt to run out the door when Limited Edition items hit the shelf, which in a way is good for me, but then I feel like the local crazy when I am in the store at 7 a.m. looking for a new collection that is barely out of the box.

EYESTUDIO QUADS WERE $10
GLOSSES WERE $7
LIPSTICKS WERE $8
NAIL POLISH $3

EVERYTHING WAS PURCHASED BY ME AT MY LOCAL WALMART

DID YOU GET ANYTHING FROM THIS MAYBELLINE FALL COLLECTION?? LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS

LUST AND BUTTER FOR YOUR LIPS, REVLON LIPPIES IN REVIEW

BACK AGAIN ARE YA?

Well today I am covering Revlon lip products and all of them are true to the fall season. Lets jump right to my first pick which is the
REVLON LIP BUTTER- 085 SUGAR PLUM
I love the lip butter formulations because I find they apply buttery soft and leave a beautiful rich wash of colour over your lips in as little as one sweep. The colours are very buildable with good pigmentation especially the darker colours like this one. Sugar Plum leaves a beautiful pinched plum colour behind and has very nice shine that makes the lips look delightful.

Just be careful not to press really hard or leave your lip butter's in a spot that gets to warm, as they are a softer lip product and can easily become a mess in the tube if not handled with care. The testers at the store for this product are the worst. However I love Revlon lip butters and lip products over all and they probably are #1 in my books for drug store level products.

Next are 3 berry toned gems that are sure to fulfill your fall fantasy and they are

Crème- 660 BERRY HAUTE I love this colour its just the right amount of pink and purple combined together to make a decadent creamy berry lip.

Pearl- 470 COPPERGLOW BERRY- This is just that a gorgeous rusted berry lipstick. It has copper flecks that catch the light beautifully on the lips and draw the attention to your mouth. The pearl finish gives this lipstick a glam feel that can also be played up for a night on the town. However I do feel this is one of those colours that won't suit everyone, so make sure to try out the tester.

Pearl- 625 ICED AMETHYST- This is a strong pink/purple metallic type lipstick that seems a lot darker in the tube. It does have fine gold particles that also catch the light and give your lips a slight hit of sparkle. It is a bit of a louder colour especially out in direct sunlight. So for those looking for something a little less out there I wouldn't recommend this colour unless you love bolder, brighter lipsticks. This is good for women who loved the rich bright summer pinks that are looking for a deeper pink, but still has that kick.

For some reason the swatch on my hand picked up more purple, but the colour in the tube is a lot more accurate to the colour on my lips.

I highly recommend Revlon lip products because they offer so many different types such as the Suede lipstick, lip butters, lip stains, lip gloss and probably one of the largest selections of lipstick finishes and colour choices at drug store level.

Out of the 4 items I shared today I would say for everyday wear definitely pick up the lip butter in Sugar Plum & the lipstick 660 Berry Haute. These colours are versatile and will take you right through winter as well.

I hope you enjoyed todays post on all things Revlon and come back soon

ANIMAL ON MY ARM JUICY COUTURE CHEETAH DAYDREAMER TOTE

 HI EVERYONE

I  thought I would do a bit of a different post today just highlighting my thoughts on animal print and its come back for the fall'13 season. This happens over and over again especially over the years I have been around. One minute we all love it, then we hate it because it's not trending, but yes I do realize there are those who just are at "all out war with animal print" as a whole. How can we tastefully work it into our outfits without it being clichéd as "Uber Tacky". Also I will give you my thoughts on my Juicy Couture Cheetah bag.

I find the easiest way to incorporate animal print in to you wardrobe is by using it as a statement piece and do so with one or two items do not go beyond that. If I see someone decked out entirely in animal print the first thought to my mind is "Peggy Bundy" from the old tv show "Married With Children" and I am sure that is not the message you want to convey (or it might be?) ;P

I think items like rings, earrings, necklaces, scarves, hand bags, wallets even gloves can work. I think SOME shoes can work, NOT all. I have seen some pretty bad animal print shoes. You want it to look animal print not like your wearing the carcass on your foot or on your arm.
The one item I absolutely loath for animal print is big faux fur car coats or hats (thinking of Janine from Ghostbusters right now). Its fine if its say a black trench coat with a small trim of animal print, same with a hat, but not the entire thing.

For me personally I don't LOVE animal print, but I do like it on occasion when fashioned the right way. However don't let me catch you wearing animal print harem/ Mc Hammer pants you may end up with barf on them, that's just me.

Now for the Juicy Couture Bag. I want to love this bag, but it's flawed in some ways in my eyes.

I love the shape of this bag only when it's stuffed like this and retaining it's shape, but I don't carry a lot in a hand bag so that ruins it right there for me

The Lining is pretty but the reality is with prolonged use it will get dirty and will take on a nasty grey hue that is unavoidable. The zippered compartment is well made and the heavy brass zipper pull is a strong highlight.

The heart shaped J is nothing more then a mirror which for some may be useful and is cute, but I don't imagine myself reaching for this much, nor have I ever since having owned this for over two years now.

The leather and brass detail for me was one of the strongest selling points with this hand bag, because I find this to be a classic look for hand bags.

I am never much of a fan of large monograms or a lot of monogramming on bags especially Louis Vuitton's  signature look for their collection, which I often find is visually a distraction from appreciating the design of the overall bag itself. However due to the cheetah print on this bag its not as noticeable in person, plus I do love the Scottie dogs as I am Scottish and this is pleasing to me. Normally I find monogramming of large proportion often just screams "Look at my bag, look at who I am carrying" and I find that tasteless. I actually quite prefer "Understated Elegance" and people who are more humble of their wealth and belongings. It's fine to be proud, but not arrogant.

This BOW has got to go, this is the biggest disappointment of this entire bag. I am in no way a girlie girl at all so this may have been the worse possible choice for me purchasing this bag, plus the fabric is a low grade linen and there are better options out there.

Lastly the bottom of the bag, do you know what the problem is???
To me any good quality, higher end bag especially when the price is reflective of it should always have feet. So the fabric, leather, etc is not being ruined by rough surfaces.
Especially when the grossest practice I see women doing is resting their handbag down on a public bathroom floor then take that same bag back to the table in a restaurant and plop it right up there where the food it "RANK" to say the least. Also why would you perhaps spend $200 to sometimes thousands of dollars on a hand bag only to abuse it that way.

So in case your wondering as well why this bag looks in great condition for how long I have had it? Well I seldom carry it. It doesn't go with a lot of my clothing choices, nor my lifestyle. Also I have very serious back problems that hinder me from carrying much. Once this bag is full it weighs a lot which is another huge draw back for me.

So there she will sit looking pretty in my closet, but she may come out for a walk or two with me this fall for a change.

TO CLOSE TODAY'S POST EVEN IF YOU LOVE TO WEAR ALL OUT ANIMAL PRINT HEAD TO TOE AS LONG AS IT'S MAKING YOU HAPPY THEN THATS ALL THAT REALLY MATTERS RIGHT??? PEOPLE LIKE ME THAT DON'T PREFER IT TO THAT DEGREE... WELL WE CAN JUST TURN OUR HEAD AND MIND OUR BUSINESS;)

LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS IF YOU OWN A HANDBAG FROM JUICY COUTURE AND HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT IT OVERALL???

NEW HARD CANDY SHADOWHOLIC 12HR WATERPROOF EYE CRAYON

What's up everyone? Hope you have all had a good week and TGIF.

Today I wanted to share with you a new product from Hard Candy which is their 12HR SHADOWHOLIC WATERPROOF EYE CRAYONS. There are 9 colours offered on Hard Candy's website, but at my Walmart there was maybe 4 colours to choose. So these were my picks based on seasonality.

L2R: AFTER HOURS & CATS EYE
 AFTER HOURS
CATS EYE

I feel that out of the two colours "Cats Eye" stands out more on the eye and glides on just a hair smoother then the "After Hours." I feel that after hours will prove to be a great addition to any smokey eye look just giving the eye a little extra hint of colour that is often not as apparent with a smokey eye look.

The beauty of these eyeshadow crayons is that you can use it as just a liner or really layer it on the eye lid for intense drama or use a blending brush and blend it out which actually looks really pretty.
You can apply it to the water line to amp up your look further, but sadly nothing lasts on my water line, plus I find anything on there tends to irritate my eyes. So unless your going to an party/event this practice should be avoided for daily wear.

In terms of wearing for 12 hours I can not say if the claim holds true.  I don't wear makeup that long in a day any way,  but I think given the format of the product and the way it has stayed in place for the few hours I have worn it I am pretty sure it will last even longer, especially if you prime the eye first. As for being waterproof I suppose I will have to shower with it on or take a jaunt in the rain to see how well it holds up;)

From the swatches I did on my hand I noticed that the after hours tends to leave an ever so slight stain behind, so just beware. I am sure with a good eye makeup remover this should not be problematic.

Lastly I am glad to see that Hard Candy was one step ahead here by providing their customers with a sharpener in each eye crayon pack as not everyone has a large sharpener on hand and this can be a problem come sharpening time. However I would like to see Hard Candy bring out shelf sharpening versions of this eye crayon in the future. This method is more convenient and mess free and it would save money not having to also produce all those sharpeners.

You can find the new Hard Candy 12hr SHADOWHOLIC crayons at Walmart
you get 2.6g/0.09 oz for $4.98 CAD

The other colours offered in the collection are GOLDEN RULE, CAMEL BACK, PURPLE RAIN, MIRROR MIRROR, AFTER DUSK, PINK LADY & CLOUD 9

I hope you all enjoyed this review and found what you were looking for

LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS IF YOUR PLANNING ON PICKING ONE OR A FEW UP?? HOW WILL YOU BE USING THEM???

Thanks for always coming back to read
